Buckhead Area Kitchen Expansion
The owner's of this 1940's cottage-style home in the Buckhead area of Atlanta had seen a couple of additions over the years to address their growing family of 6. However, those renovations addressed bedrooms only, and not living space. So the goal was clear when CS Design Group became involved and saw a unique underutilized outdoor center courtyard... Expand the Kitchen in such a way that it is comfortable, functional, and inviting for the whole family!

The Kitchen's small, but central location, presented some interesting opportunities.

In addition to blending roof lines, another challenged faced was the lower (brick paved) interior courtyard.

From the other direction you can see the new fireplace taking shape, as carpenters start to lay travertine tile.

The new 4 foot by 8 foot island now seats this family of 6 comfortably.

From this direction you can see how the elliptic arched cabinets and see-thru glass cabinets on either side of the kitchen opens the Kitchen up to the Dining area on one side and the Family Room on the other.

Another amazing detail in the Kitchen is the casual bench seating with custom trim work and glass display cabinets above.

Another great focal point is the limestone fireplace and mantel with raised hearth.

An adjacent central and unique interior courtyard gave us a great opportunity to expand.

An elliptic arched cabinet and see-thru glass cabinets on either side are just 2 of the many details featured in the new Kitchen.

Here, the seating takes center stage, as all 6 family members can sit comfortably in the new Kitchen. Also seen in the far left corner is the newly enlarged pantry.

The new fireplace beyond is flanked by upper and lower cabinets (with appliance storage) on one side and casual seating on the other side.

The dramatic stainless steel cooktop and oven with custom hood serve as a great focal point for people seated at the island.
